Christenings

Parents often want to bring children to church to be christened. In baptism parents thank God for his gift of life, make a decision to start their child on a journey of faith and godparents promise help and support.

Children may be baptised during a Worship Together service on the first Sunday of the month but a christening could be part of any Sunday service. This is not always possible and so children may instead be baptised at another time agreed between the Vicar and the family.

If you are considering asking for a child to be christened then come along one Sunday and approach the Vicar or other minister to discuss possibilities.

A Thanksgiving Service

Other parents might want to celebrate the gift of a child in a different way without the deeper commitment to Christ and church membership that baptism involves. During a service with thanksgiving parents and families give thanks for the birth or adoption of a child.

A Thanksgiving Service is not a Baptism. There are no promises to make about the Christian faith. The child will be blessed and prayed for, and supporting friends will promise to support the parents in bringing up their baby.
